We Walked Across the Ohio River at Night

We walked across
the Ohio river
at night and
I was again a
ghost, haunting
memories as they
filled me up like
this river filling
its basin beneath
me. And when
he grabbed my
hand, I was a filmy
mist spread thin, under
foot and drifting on
air across this bridge
as the night sky
rolled out—a
scroll above us.

Next weekend, I'll get to walk across a river that means a lot to me--the Brazos--but I won't write as good a poem!

Truly great writing here, Laura. This reminds me of Browning.

The September retreat series (in your honor) goes on.

Here's the link for the posts: http://www.moonboatcafe.com/search/label/September

See how you inspired me? :-)

Beautiful, Laura. You create such a vivid image your poem needs no illustration.

You have a gift. Your words wrapped around me today. Celebrating the joy of life and walking over new rivers today as well.

Delighted to meet you today. Jumped over from Getting Down with Jesus. Hope you don't mind if I splash around in your pond a bit to get to know you.

splashin,
Sara

I love the part about being a filmy mist spread thin. I love the ambiguity of that.

I knew that had to be Cincinnati--my home for 8 years. Beautiful picture---beautiful words---they marvelously paint a picture themselves.

I love this. I love the title, I love the images, I love the haunted feeling it evokes. And I love that when you were a mist, about to drift away in those haunting memories? real, substantial, love, grabbed hold of you.
