Bruised: A Poem

this bruise
on my right arm; a
sapphire star beneath silver skin
the size of a thumb print—

will you
press your thumb
against it? wrap your fingers
around the curve of
tender places and

pull me
to your kind heart
until there is no light
between us? i will press
my body into yours and

we can fall into
that timeless, ageless
place ... where you will
never shut the doors in my
face again.

just you and me,
leaning into the melting sun
until we are

one silhouette.

I've been thinking about this poem ever since I read it last week. Just wanted you to know that. Those first lines about pushing your thumb into a bruise stuck with me for some reason.
